Captain America director to helm The Silver Chair

joe-johnston to direct The Silver ChairJoe Johnston, director of Captain America: The First Avenger, will be taking on the upcoming film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, according to a report by Variety.

Variety reveals other details on the project, based on the sixth novel of The Chronicles of Narnia:

“TriStar Pictures will partner with the Mark Gordon Company, the C.S. Lewis Company, and Entertainment One on the project with Mark Gordon, Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber, and Melvin Adams producing the pic. Life of Pi scribe David Magee adapted the script.”

As previously reported, The Silver Chair will be part of a new franchise, not necessarily following the previous Narnia adaptations of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Mark Gordon said of Johnston:

“Joe is a wonderful storyteller who is equally at home in the biggest franchises and the most intimate character pieces…Because C.S. Lewis’ story is iconic and epic, but also tender, personal, and emotional, he’s the perfect choice to bring The Silver Chair to the screen.”

Other than the first Captain America film, Johnston is also known for directing Jumanji, starring Robin Williams, as well as Jurassic Park 3.
