Despite the lack of recent developments, Ron Howard confirms that the Dark Tower TV adaptation is still happening.
An intriguing poster for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower novel series was released. The film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, the gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black. Not much else in the form of promotional material has been released since then.
There were talks of a spin-off series based on the books to fill in the gaps between the release of the film adaptations. But the film evolved into a sequel to the books.
During the red carpet for Nat Geo’s Genius, a TV series about the biography of Albert Einstein, TVGuide had the chance to speak with producer Ron Howard on the status of the project. He said:
“Dark Tower is coming out this summer… It’s a terrific movie directed by Nikolaj Arcel. And we are working on the television component.”
But as of the moment, there are no networks that have signed on to produce or distribute the series.
Howard added:
“That’s not a commitment on the television side, but creatively, it could work very well, hand in hand with what we’d like the movies to be.”
So it looks like everything depends on how well the movies do and hopefully, talks about the television adaptation will progress after that. But it’s good to know there’s still a chance for this to become a reality in the future.
