Callum Turner (Green Room, War and Peace) is the latest to join the cast of the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He will be playing the older brother of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), Theseus Scamander.
According to an article by Empire, Theseus is an Auror who isn’t very impressed by his younger brother’s Magizoology pursuits. He is also assigned by the British Ministry of Magic to help capture the nefarious Gellert Grindelwald. Theseus was briefly referenced in the first film.
As previously reported, Jude Law has been cast as a younger version of Albus Dumbledore, who will be pitted against another powerful wizard, Grindelwald, who is played by Johnny Depp and who made a brief appearance in the first film. David Yates will be returning as director.
Not much has been revealed about the upcoming sequel other than it will be set in Paris. It will be tackling a particularly dark period in the Wizarding World that will force Newt Scamander and his friends to carefully choose their allegiances.
According to Variety, Fantastic Beasts 2 will begin production this summer and it will reunite producers J. K. Rowling, David Heyman, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram. Neil Blair, Rick Senat, and Danny Cohen are serving as executive producers.
