Carmen Sandiego animated series coming to Netflix in 2019

Carmen SandiegoNetflix has ordered a new animated series about the adventures of the international master thief, Carmen Sandiego.

Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) will be voicing the titular character and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) will be voicing a character named Player, Carmen’s accomplice and friend. Rita Moreno previously played Sandiego in the 90s animated TV series Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? No other cast members have been announced so far.

Carmen Sandiego is the name of a villain and international master thief and star of a series of educational computer games and an educational game show. She is the ringleader of the criminal organization called V.I.L.E. and the nemesis of all members of the ACME Detective Agency (players of the computer game often portray detectives from this organization). She and her cohorts constantly plan to steal treasures from around the world.

Carmen Sandiego will be produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. According to IGN, Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of 22 minutes each.

“Carmen Sandiego is back and ready for a new crop of international capers packed with thrilling adventure and intrigue. This fresh take presents an intimate look into Carmen’s past where viewers will not only follow her escapades but also learn WHO in the world is Carmen Sandiego and WHY she became a super thief.”

Duane Capizzi (Transformers: Prime and The Batman) will serve as showrunner and executive producer along with CJ Kettler, and Caroline Fraser will be in charge of production. This series will surely appeal to all kids who grew up playing the computer games or watching the game shows, and there is still so much about the main character that can be explored.
