Scream’s Third Season Could Be a Reboot!

Scream S2 E13- Halloween

I’m going to miss this cast so much!

When Scream‘s third season first got announced in October, I was ecstatic to find out that I was still going to see my beloved Emma Duval, Audrey Jenson, and co. on my TV screen again. Sure, it would only be for a six episode run, but that’s a decent amount of time to conclude the series (since we all know a fourth season would be incredibly unlikely).

It didn’t even phase me when it was stated that once again, MTV would be looking for new show-runners for the third season. Season Two had new show-runners and they kept the same cast, story-lines, etc. – so the next season would do the same, right? Well, it’s possible.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • According to Deadline, Dimension TV is looking to reboot the series with a whole new slew of characters and plot. Keyword: looking.
  • MTV has a new president, Chris McCarthy. This leadership change could mean a shift in programming.
  • Apparently the current cast was quietly told to get new jobs. (Ex: Willa Fitzgerald was cast as a series regular role for the “Behind Enemy Lines” pilot).

I should mention that this doesn’t mean the reboot is set in stone. For all we know, MTV could find a show-runner(s) that is interested in continuing with the original cast/plot. (It’s the only thing keeping me together about this news, to be honest).

What are your thoughts on the possible Scream TV series reboot? Or as my roommate calls it: “the reboot of a reboot of a reboot” (Scream 4 was technically considered a reboot/revival, right?).

For me, it depends on who the new set of characters are, the new masked killer, plot, etc. for me to give it a solid viewing (let alone a review about it). Will the series still be set in Lakewood? Will they mention Emma, Audrey, Brooke, and the rest of the Lakewood Six? Plus, how will they address the cliffhangers we were given in the Halloween special?

My fingers are crossed that at least the majority of the cast returns, but I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
