FX has certainly made a splash in superhero TV with Legion, the mind-bending, stunning, and altogether befuddling show that’s settled somewhere in the X-Men universe. Unlike other superhero shows, like Arrow and its spin-offs, Legion is much less linear, much heavier, and much, much more confusing.
For people like me who hoped to look to the comic books to get some clarity, it seems like that won’t be an option. Legion was just renewed for a 10-episode second season. Producer Noah Hawley recently revealed that he won’t be looking to the comics for storylines for the second season. “You may see ideas or characters or images that are familiar to you,” Hawley stated, but nothing will be pulled directly from the pages.
Sir Patrick Stewart has hinted that he would be open to a cameo appearance on Legion as Professor X, David’s (Dan Stevens) biological father, but otherwise the show doesn’t seem to have any ties to the X-Men cinematic universe either.
Legion’s season one finale airs Wednesday at 10 pm on FX.
Are you excited to see entirely new storylines in season two? What would you think of a Patrick Stewart (or even James McAvoy) cameo? Are you just as confused and awed as I am every time you watch a new episode? Let us know in the comments below!
