The Dark TowerThe first, enigmatic poster for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has been released.

“There are other worlds than these,” the poster teases, as it was released on Twitter by Stephen King himself, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

At the top of the poster, one can see The Man in Black, played by Matthew McConaughey, while at the bottom one can see Idris Elba, as the Gunslinger, and the boy adventurer Jake Chambers, played by Tom Taylor. They are surrounded by tall and mysterious structures, parts of the elaborate world through which they must journey.

As previously reported, the Dark Tower is an eight-novel series by American writer Stephen King that incorporates themes from fantasy, horror, and Western genres. The saga focuses on the quest of the gunslinger, Roland Deschain, to save his decaying world by reaching a tower the significance of which is both physical and metaphorical.

The first book, The Gunslinger, was published in 1982 and the final novel in the chronology of the series, The Dark Tower, was published in 2004. An eighth book, The Wind Through the Keyhole, was released in 2012, covering events that occurred between the fourth and fifth book of the series.

The film will be directed by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, though other directors like J.J. Abrams and Ron Howard were previously attached to the project.

The Dark Tower will be released on July 28, 2017.
