Starz has released a new trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, and it’s full of amazing scenes.
“What’s a god?” Shadow Moon asks in the clip.
“They’re real if you believe in them,” Mr. Wednesday calmly replies.
“So, who are you?”
“You wouldn’t believe in me if I told you.”
The trailer is weird and wonderful, featuring glimpses of the various powerful deities, both the old gods and the new, that Shadow encounters on his strange journey.
“None of this feels real,” Shadow says, “It feels like a dream.”
And from the fascinating images and scenes (and quite a bit of blood, too) featured in the trailer, it looks like American Gods will be a truly enthralling series.
The show follows the fascinating adventures of an ex-con named Shadow Moon (played by Ricky Whittle) who becomes embroiled in a conflict between powerful deities after he becomes the bodyguard to the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday (played by Deadwood‘s Ian McShane). It is based on the award-winning novel by Neil Gaiman.
American Gods boasts of a stellar cast including stars Gillian Anderson, Sean Harris, Yetide Bataki, Bruce Langley, Crispin Glover, Jonathan Tucker, Cloris Leachman, Peter Stormare, Chris Obi, Mousa Kraish, Orlando Jones, Jeremy Davies, Demore Barnes, and Kristin Chenoweth. They all play deities in the show’s extensive mythos, all struggling to retain relevance in a world with shifting values.
Another trailer was released during the San Diego Comic Con last year.
As previously reported, American Gods will premiere on April 30 on Starz.
