Jed Whedon To Make Directorial Debut on ‘SHIELD’

Fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. know that Jed Whedon is one half of the show’s wonderful co-showrunner team – the other half being his wife, Maurissa Tancharoen. What they may not know is that Whedon will be making his directorial debut on this week’s upcoming episode, “Self Control,” which he also wrote.

As IGN reports,

The February 21st episode is pivotal for Season 4, as it marks the end of the current “L.M.D.” story arc and kicks off the third and final pod of episodes of the season. Whedon […] told IGN that he’s always wanted to try his hand at directing, and decided last year that Season 4 would finally be his time to get behind the camera.

Having written it, Whedon knew this particular episode was going to be a challenge for his debut. Still, he welcomed it. As he put it, “I figured just throw me in the deep end and see if I can swim, and I did write a little bit of a deep end in some of it. I think it worked out.” Plus, he enjoyed being able to be more hands-on with the cast than he usually is as a writer.

We only have a few days to wait to see whether we agree with his assessment. But knowing the talent behind its directing and writing, I have high hopes.
