Beauty and the Beast isn’t the only Emma Watson film you should be anticipating this year.
Mae Holland (Watson) thinks she’s landed her dream job working at the tech company, the Circle. Judging from the newly released full trailer, the Circle could be compared to any popular company we can never seem to escape: Apple, Google, Facebook, Buzzfeed, etc.
As her time with the company grows, so do her suspicions. “Do you think you behave better or worse when you are being watched?” creator Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks) states. That’s right, cameras are being placed everywhere so the organization can have the “fly on the wall” aspect in everyone’s lives. After all, “Knowing is good. But knowing everything is better.”
The Circle is based on the best selling novel of the same name by Dave Eggers with Karen Gillan and John Boyega also starring.
Who else is super intrigued by the premise of this film? While yes, it features the current popular “technology is bad” theme that we’ve seen done in recent shows and films, I feel like this film really drives the idea that this could happen to our society in real life if we’re not careful. Plus, seeing Tom Hanks take on an antagonist role is so interesting! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s a rarity that he plays these types of characters. (I’m going to get tons of lists of films where he’s played the bad guy, aren’t I?)
Anyone that’s read the book that wants to share their critiques of how it seems to be adapted so far with the film?
The Circle will be watching you in theaters everywhere April 28th.

It’s the cast that really makes this intriguing for me. A less interesting cast and I’d probably be like meh – because as you say, overall the theme/plot has been done a lot recently.
Yes! I think that’s why I’m so drawn to this move as well! (Honestly, I’ll watch pretty much anything if an actor/cast I adore is in it…) While watching the trailer I was like, “OMG! I love that person, and that person, and THAT person!”
I’m not even that big of a sci-fi/dystopian fan. So it’s interesting to me how much I want to see this movie (I blame Emma Watson).
