“If you’re interested in stories with happy endings, that story is streaming elsewhere. I would advise all our viewers to watch something more pleasant instead.”
This is the warning given by Lemony Snicket (played by Patrick Warburton) in the latest trailer for the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events.
The 8-episode first season is based on the book series of the same name which focuses on the plight of the three Baudelaire orphans: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, and their struggles with the nefarious Count Olaf (played by Neil Patrick Harris) who is eager to get his hands on their parents’ fortune. And though the children endure countless trials and tribulations, they are clever and courageous and somehow manage to escape the worst. But their journey, as the title suggests, is never easy.
Other than Harris and Warburton, A Series of Unfortunate Events also Joan Cusack as Justice Strauss, Alfre Woodard as Aunt Josephine, Aasif Mandvi as Uncle Monty, K. Todd Freeman as Mr. Arthur Poe, Catherine O’Hara as Dr. Georgina Orwell, Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, Louis Hynes as Klaus Baudelaire, and Presley Smith as Sunny Baudelaire. The first three books were adapted to the big screen in 2004 with Jim Carrey as Count Olaf.
A Series of Unfortunate Events will air on January 13, 2017 on Netflix.
