U.S. Avengers #1 regular cover
January 2017 will see the launch of the all-new Marvel ongoing series, U.S. Avengers. Written by Al Ewing (Mighty Avengers) with art by Paco Medina (Contest of Champions), the first issue of U.S. Avengers will have over 50 alternate variant covers available drawn by artist Rod Reis.
Each cover will represent a different U.S. state with a different Marvel superhero gracing the page. For example, Iron Man will represent California, Luke Cage will represent New York, and Ms. Marvel will represent her home state of New Jersey. Additionally, although it’s not part of the U.S., Deadpool will represent his country of origin, Canada.
According to Marvel SVP/Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, assigning a single hero to each state was no small feat. Here’s what Brevoort had to say about the process:
We did extensive research through Marvel’s history to be able to align a particular Avenger with each individual State. Beginning with places of birth, and expanding outward to key stories featuring the character in that particular location, we were able to hone in on a specific and unique Avengers character with a connection to each of the fifty States—and more!
U.S. Avengers #1 will officially release in comic book shops and digital platforms January 4, 2017. If you live in the United States, check out every variant cover below and see which superhero will represent your state.
