The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi epic finally gets a proper title. Pacific Rim 2 will be called Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
According to a report by Slashfilm, the official title of the sequel has just been released. John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) posted as much on his Instagram.

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is a sequel to the 2013 Guillermo del Toro sci-fi epic that explored a dystopian world where giant monsters called kaiju terrorized humanity, and they could only be defeated by giant, dual-piloted robots called jaegers. Pacific Rim starred Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and Ron Perlman.
As previously reported, Maelstrom will star Boyega as the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film, Stacker Pentecost. Other cast members include Scott Eastwood, Jian Ting, Cailee Spaeny, Adria Arjona, Ivana Sakhno, and Levi Meaden. No plot details have been revealed so far.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is set to be released on February 23, 2018.
