The latest additions to the talented cast of Disney’s film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time are Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Chris Pine.
A report by Variety confirms that Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle) has joined the cast. Ava DuVernay (Selma) will be directing and Jennifer Lee (Frozen) will be writing the script for this adaptation of the Newberry-award winning book, A Wrinkle in Time, originally written by Madeleine L’Engle.
A Wrinkle in Time is the first book in L’Engle’s Time Quintet fantasy/science fiction young adult book series and is followed by A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, and An Acceptable Time.
A Wrinkle in Time follows the adventures of Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and his friend Calvin O’Keefe, as they explore various planets through a tesseract, all while in search of Meg’s scientist father. Mbatha-Raw will be playing Mrs. Murry, mother of Meg and Charles Wallace. She will also be appearing in the live-action Beauty and the Beast film as the feather duster, Plumette.
Chris Pine (Star Trek) has also just joined the cast, according to a report by Deadline, and he will be playing Mr. Murry, the lost scientist the children have gone in search of during their adventures. Meg Murry will be played by Storm Reid (12 Years a Slave).
A Wrinkle in Time truly boasts of a star-studded cast with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling also set to star in the film.
