Trailer Released for Gore Verbinski’s ‘A Cure for Wellness’

cureforwellnessposter20th Century Fox has unveiled the first official trailer for their upcoming horror film A Cure for Wellness. From Gore Verbinski, the director of The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, this upcoming film teams up Verbinski with screenwriter Justin Haythe with whom Verbinski previously collaborated with on 2013’s critically panned The Lone Ranger. Hopefully, A Cure for Wellness is more well received, because this trailer is highly intriguing.

Starring Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), Mia Goth (Everest), and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter franchise), the synopsis for A Cure for Wellness is as follows:

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps but soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. (IMDb)

The trailer is filled with some beautiful and at times haunting imagery accompanied by an eerie rendition of The Ramones‘ “I Wanna Be Sedated”. If not for the previously released synopsis of the film, it’s difficult to tell what A Cure for Wellness is about from this trailer alone. While Verbinski has directed a handful of fun, popcorn films in previous years, this wouldn’t be the first time the director has delved into horror. His 2002 film The Ring, the American remake of the Japanese Ringu, was critically well received and currently holds a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Cure for Wellness releases in theaters February 17, 2017. Check out the unsettling trailer below and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
