Ronja the Robber’s Daughter Coming to Amazon Prime

Ronja the Robber's DaughterRonja the Robber’s Daughter, an animated series made by Studio Ghibli, will be soon available on Amazon Prime.

According to a report by IGN, Ronja the Robber’s Daughter (Sanzoku no Musume Ronia) is the animated adaptation of a book written by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, first published in 1981. The book chronicles the adventures of a young girl named Ronja, who is the daughter of the chief of a clan of robbers living in a castle in the woodlands of early-Medieval Scandinavia. The adventurous young heroine often ventures into the forest to explore and somehow finds all manner of mystical creatures.

The show began airing in Japan in 2014 and it has a total of 26 episodes. The series is directed by Goro Miyazaki (Tales from Earthsea, From Up on Poppy Hill.) Miyazaki discussed the show, saying:

Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is a story not just about a girl who grows into adulthood, but it is also a story about the love and growth between a parent and a child, and a story about the bonds between friends. My goal is to create a work that everyone, from children to adults, will be able to enjoy.

According to Kotaku, the English dub will be narrated by Gillian Anderson (Hannibal, The X-Files). The series will be available to stream for Amazon Prime subscribers in the US, UK, Japan, Germany, and Austria.

Studio Ghibli, co-founded by renowned animator Hayao Miyazaki, has produced some of the most beloved animated films of all time, including Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Arrietty, Ponyo, Whisper of the Heart, and Kiki’s Delivery Service.
