The Walking Dead renewed for Season 8

AMC has officially renewed its hit zombie apocalypse show The Walking Dead a week before the premiere of its seventh season.

According to a report by Deadline, AMC announced that The Walking Dead was renewed for an eighth season right after a special two-hour recap of the show aired last Sunday. The eighth season will begin with the series’ 100^th episode and will have a total of 16 episodes. It will likely debut in late 2017, probably sometime in October.

AMC boss Charlie Collier released a statement about the renewal:

“Eeny, meeny, miny, more,… What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”

The seventh season will open with the answer to the horrible cliffhanger from the season six finale where the newest villain, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), threatens to kill one of the main cast. Audiences have been left in suspense for several months, wildly speculating on which of their favorite characters met a bloody fate. This will finally be revealed, and the characters will have to deal with the devastating loss of one of their own.
