Live-action Mulan film gets release date

MULANThe live-action adaptation of Disney’s Mulan is set to be released on November 2, 2018, though no further details about casting have been revealed.

According to a report by Variety, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World, Avatar) will be re-writing the script for this film. They will be re-writing the spec by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin.

No director has been announced yet and a global casting search will soon be launched to find a Chinese actress to play the title role of Mulan. She was voiced by Ming Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) in the animated film.

Mulan, the 1998 classic animated Disney film, chronicled the adventures of a courageous young Chinese woman who disguises herself as a man and joins the army in order to save her father. Her journey helps her learn more about herself, as well as single-handedly defeat the Hun army that has invaded her country. She returns home a hero.

The film featured some beloved songs such as “Reflection” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.” Mulan is just the latest Disney film to be adapted into a live-action version, following the successes of The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Maleficent, and Cinderella. The next live Disney classic will be Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson. Several other projects are currently in development, including a sequel to Mary Poppins (starring Emily Blunt) and a live-action Little Mermaid.

Mulan will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
