Jeremy Davies will be joining the cast of American Gods, playing a very familiar role, Jesus. You read that right. Jesus will be one of the characters of the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, Davies’ role will be related to another recently cast character, Ostara or Easter (to be portrayed by Kristin Chenoweth). Jesus’ official character description reads:
“Resurrected on Ostara’s feast day, Jesus has always been generous in sharing the Easter holiday with the ancient goddess. But the overly empathetic Son of God would be crushed to know that Ostara harbors some deeply buried resentment over the issue.”
Davies is an Emmy Award winning-actor known for his work on Justified, Lost, and Hannibal (so he will be reuniting with Bryan Fuller for American Gods.) He will also be appearing in the new season of Sleepy Hollow and the Twin Peaks revival.
He is only the latest to join the distinguished cast of the show which includes Gillian Anderson (Hannibal, The Fall) as Media, Sean Harris (The Borgias, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley (Deadly Waters) as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) as Mr. World, Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom) as Low Key Lyesmith, Cloris Leachman (Malcolm in The Middle, Raising Hope) as Zorya Vechernyaya, Peter Stormare (Fargo, Prison Break) as Czernobog, Chris Obi (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Counselor) as Anubis, Mousa Kraish (Superbad, Fast & Furious) as The Jinn, Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow) as Mr. Nancy, and Demore Barnes (12 Monkeys) as Mr. Ibis.
American Gods follows the thrilling adventures of an ex-con named Shadow Moon (played by Ricky Whittle) who becomes embroiled in a conflict between powerful deities after he becomes the body guard to the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday (played by Ian McShane.)
American Gods will air on Starz in 2017.
