Henry Allen, the father of Barry Allen/The Flash, is currently played by John Wesley Shipp on The CW’s The Flash, but with a separate movie in the works attached to the DC Extended Universe a new Henry is being cast. According to sources, Billy Crudup is in talks to play the character in the upcoming film directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and written by Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO Batman Movie).
Crudup is no stranger to Warner Bros.’ DC films. In 2008 he played the iconic Alan Moore-created character Dr. Manhattan, in Zack Snyder’s divisive take on Watchmen. With a film career that has continued since the mid-90s, other notable films include Almost Famous, Eat Pray Love, Tim Burton’s Big Fish, and most recently, The Stanford Prison Experiment.
The Flash is currently set to release in theaters March 16, 2018 following the release of Wonder Woman and Justice League in 2017. We still have plenty of time before The Flash makes his way to the silver screen, so the role of Henry Allen could eventually go to someone else. Remember, Tom Hardy (The Revenant) was initially set to play Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. In the mean time, feel free to let us know what you think of this potential casting update. Is there someone else you’d like to see play the father of The Flash?
