Key promotional art for HBO’s upcoming sci-fi drama, Westworld, has just been released.
The new poster shows a strange, silver robotic/humanoid figure with a similar pose to Da Vinci’s Vitruvian man, with a large “W” behind it as well as a Western-style background.
Westworld is based on the 1973 film written by Michael Crichton; the story takes place in an American Old West-themed amusement park of the same name where robots bring to life the customers’ fantasies. The film famously starred Yul Brynner. Anthony Hopkins will play Westworld’s complicated and mysterious creative director, Dr. Robert Ford.
Earlier this week, a long trailer was released for the show, with many dark and intriguing scenes that hint at the imminent conflict between the humans and the robotic “hosts” who were created to cater to people’s desires.
Westworld boasts of an all-star cast including Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Ben Barnes, Rodrigo Santoro, and Ed Harris. The show was written by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Person of Interest) and is produced by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
According to IGN, the first season of Westworld will be comprised of ten episodes.
Westworld premieres on October 2 on HBO.
