Not a lot is known about this season of Sherlock but a short teaser has already been released and Toby Jones has been cast as the main villain of the piece. During a promotional tour for the show during this year’s San Diego Comic Con, members of the cast discussed what the next season would be like. Amanda Abbington (who stars as Mary Watson) recently said that this season is the darkest the show has ever been, and Cumberbatch also added that it would be an “emotional rollercoaster.”
But show runner Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) recently admitted that due to the busy schedules of the show’s stars, the fourth season of the modern adaptation of the adventures of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s consulting detective may possibly be the last. This is not the final decision yet, however, and fans will at least have three new episodes to look forward to.
Sherlock season 4 will be out in 2017 on BBC One.
