A newly-released trailer for the upcoming sci-fi drama, Westworld, features hints of the upcoming conflict between robots and man.
“I’ve designed every part of this place,” says Anthony Hopkins’ Dr. Robert Ford, “It’s not a theme park, but an entire world.”
The trailer focused on the point of view of one of the robotic hosts, Dolores (played by Evan Rachel Wood) who, according to Entertainment Weekly, is Westworld‘s oldest resident, who has been resurrected after countless deaths that she was programmed to forget.
“No choice you’ve ever made has been your own,” says a mysterious voice, “You have always been a prisoner. What if I told you, I’m here to set you free?”
According to HBO, the show is set at “the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past”, and that “it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.”
It is based on the 1973 film written by Michael Crichton where the story takes place in an American Old West-themed amusement park where robots bring to life the customers’ fantasies. The film famously starred Yul Brynner.
As previously reported, Westworld stars Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, and Ed Harris. The rest of the cast was previously announced. The show was written by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Person of Interest) and is produced by JJ Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek).
Westworld will premiere on October 2 on HBO.
