Watch the teaser for Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency picThe newest teaser trailer for the upcoming BBC America series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has a lot of fun stuff for fans of the genre including dead bodies, cops, killers, a kitten, a trap, a cult, a kidnapping, and more.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a loose adaptation of Douglas Adams’ two Dirk Gently novels, according to an article by Entertainment Weekly. The titular character, Dirk Gently, describes himself as a “holistic detective” who uses the principle of “the fundamental interconnectedness of all things” to solve crimes.

The show stars Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful) as the titular character and Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) as Todd, a man who inadvertently gets dragged into Dirk Gently’s adventures. It will be written and executively produced by Max Landis (Chronicle). The eight-episode series is a co-production between BBC America and Netflix.

Landis spoke to EW about the show:

“The plot is completely new… It keeps the flavor of Douglas Adams — the tones, the dialogue, the ideas, the concepts, the philosophical approach — while at the same time grounding it, and putting it in an edgier, realer world, that still gets stylized and surreal once things hit the fan.”

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency premieres on October 22 on BBC America.
