When the news broke that Lynda Carter would be returning to DCTV after nearly 40 years, fans went wild. Supergirl welcomed television’s original Wonder Woman, this time as the President of the United States. Her actual appearance during filming was met with even more enthusiasm, and Melissa Benoist was among those rejoicing.

“Met a wonderful woman today @reallyndacarter,” the Supergirl star gushed on an Instagram photo she shared after filming August 18th. Lynda Carter returned the compliment on Twitter, “Having so much fun filming Supergirl on The CW with Melissa Benoist!”
It’s wonderful to see two powerful women bonding, both onscreen and off. And the show is certainly trying to live up to its reputation for girl power this season. In addition to Lynda Carter’s welcome appearance, Floriana Lima and Sharon Leal will be joining the cast as Maggie Sawyer and Miss Martian respectively.
While the extent of Lynda’s role is unclear, her first appearance is in the third episode of the season. Coming off two episodes with the Man of Steel himself, it’s clear the show runners are pulling out all the stops to mark Supergirl‘s move to the CW. The question remains, though, whether Carter’s president will be a friend or foe. She and Kara seemed cozy in filming pictures, but it’s not unheard of for a politician to use a celebrity for a photo op. What might happen between the two ladies after the press conference?
Before trading up to travel on Air Force One, Lynda Carter flew an invisible jet in Wonder Woman. The classic 70s show has had such a lasting impact that DC publishes comics based on it. Hopefully the president in Supergirl will prove just as empowering a character as Diana Prince.
Catch the show when it returns October 10th at 8pm on The CW!
