Marvel Boss Talks ‘Edgier’ S.H.I.E.L.D., A Few Story Details

When Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for its fourth season, it’s moving to a later timeslot: 10pm. That’s not an accident. As reported by Comicbook.com, the Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, says the move allows the show to tell stories that are a little darker:

By going to 10 o’clock, we’re going to be taking on just a little bit more edge, a little bit more grit. The show is pretty violent for something at 9 o’clock, but when we get to 10 o’clock, we’re going to be just a little hair of something that I think people are going to really enjoy.

The addition of Ghost Rider to the cast certainly seems to fit that new grittier edge.

Dark, edgy Daisy?

We also know from the teaser at the end of season three that Daisy has a new, darker look, and she’s on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D., as well. Apparently, she’s committed some dramatic act that brought her to the media’s attention as “Quake”. Says Loeb,

You got a little tease at the end of last season that clearly something’s happened to Daisy. She seems to be on her own. That dang media has decided to name her Quake, so we have to find out if that’s a good thing or a bad thing — and clearly, S.H.I.E.L.D. is now hunting her. We’re seeing that Coulson and Mack are now partners for some reason; they refer to each other as though they are equals. […] There are obviously going to be a lot more changes.

It remains to be seen just how the newly non-Director Coulson interacts with Jason O’Mara‘s Director character – not to mention with the rest of those who used to be his agents.

Less than a month now! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts its fourth season on September 20th at 10pm on ABC. Let us know if you’re looking forward to the show’s new mood in the comments below.
