‘Mr. Robot’ renewed for a third season

USA’s breakout hit, Mr. Robot, has just been renewed for a third series, according to Deadline.

Mr. RobotThe series has been a huge prestige hit for USA Network, with rave reviews and 6 Emmy Nominations (including Best Drama and Best Actor for its star, Rami Malek). Ratings haven’t been quite as great, but it looks like USA recognize that sometimes ratings aren’t the be all end all of a series. And for a network attempting to build a new image (and likely attract a younger audience), a show like Mr. Robot is worth its weight in gold.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honored as one of the best dramas on television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network.”

Now of course the trick with a show like Mr. Robot is not to overstay its welcome and extend the series beyond the stories limit. But with the creative talent of Sam Esmail we have faith that he’ll bring the series to a close when he feels his story has been told.

Mr. Robot airs on Wednesdays on USA. The first series is also available on Amazon streaming for those who may not have caught up yet (do, it’s well worth your time).
