Supergirl fans, rest assured that everyone’s favorite boss will be gracing National City with her presence next season. For months, critics speculated that Calista Flockhart would be dropping out of the show due to the change in networks. Now a Warner Bros. rep confirms that she has agreed to stay on as a recurring guest star. Unfortunately, this means we won’t see her nearly as often. But it’s far better than the dreaded alternative, no?
Making the Move

As harsh as she is, Cat always has something to teach Kara.
The reason Cat Grant may be stepping down from her fulltime job at CatCo is: location, location, location. Calista Flockhart simply couldn’t make the move from Los Angeles to Vancouver with the rest of the cast. Deadline reports that CW committed to flying her out every few weeks in order to film as many scenes as possible per trip. Whether that means filming multiple episodes at once or leaving her out of a few episodes is less certain.
In a statement, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”
That’s something we can all agree on, so it’s great news that the actress and network reached a compromise. It also explains the casting of Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr to fill in the blanks. Hopefully Cat pops in at least every other episode, because the best thing about Supergirl is the relationships between the women.
How do you think Supergirl will explain Cat’s dimished role in the show?
Are you relieved she’s returning, or would you be okay without her?

A smaller role easily works, given that Kara’s not her assistant anymore. Their relationship dynamic was always very interesting and I really liked how they explored Cat’s character, but this could also really work for Kara’s own character growth. It’s not like she’ll be gone completely, but a smaller role in Kara’s life also really makes sense.
