Marvel Exec Teases Crossover Possibilities on ‘Luke Cage’

Ever since the announcement of a Luke Cage series, a common question has been whether Jessica Jones, of the show that introduced us to Mike Colter’s indestructible superhero, might appear in his show. EW reports that Marvel TV executive Jeph Loeb spoke about the issue after the Marvel’s Luke Cage panel at the Television Critic Association press tour, but didn’t give specifics. He preferred to allow people to experience the show without expectations in regards to that area. He continued:

“What I can tell you is that the way that you saw Luke and Jessica is very much from Jessica’s point of view. And it needed to be that way; it’s Jessica’s story. So, you don’t get to see where he goes when he’s not with her. He exists within her world. What’s so exciting for us about this is we now get 13 hours of seeing what his world is and where it goes. There are a couple of things that I think after people watch this show, they’ll go back and watch Jessica Jones and go, ‘Oh, that’s what he was talking about,’ or ‘That’s why he was behaving that particular way.’ That’s the thing that’s really so cool.”

I’m definitely intrigued by those possibilities. As for the fact that the comics have Luke and Jessica get married and have a kid, Loeb didn’t rule it out, but said it wouldn’t happen soon. An appearance by Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, on the other hand, Loeb presented as very likely. He promised that the connections would be present and would be rewarding for fans.

Fans hoping for Luke Cage to appear in a Marvel movie, however, might be disappointed. According to EOline, Loeb explained that the logistics of that kind of crossover make it unlikely in the near future. The filming schedules for the two kinds of media usually don’t allow enough flexibility.

Luke Cage will be available to stream on Netflix starting September 30th. Let us know in the comments what you’re looking forward to the most!
