‘Black Sails’ to End With Season 4

The end of Starz’s Black Sails is closer then you think, sailors! While the show is critically acclaimed and renewed early numerous times, the upcoming fourth season will be its last.

Before you gather your swords and send mean message Starz way, it is actually a decision on the writers/producers part. Similar to both Orphan Black and The Vampire Diaries ending, the Black Sails crew feel the fourth season should be its last.

Co-creator Jonathan E. Steinberg, had this to say on the matter:

“It’s a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we’ve enjoyed on this show over the last four years. While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island.”

Black Sails has an average viewership of 3.6 million viewers, and the show has won several Emmy’s for visual effects and sound editing. Everyone at Starz is also sad to see the Treasure Island prequel come to an end.

Starz managing director, Carmi Zlotnik, had this to say on the show’s end:

“Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, along with their crew and the phenomenal cast, have delivered a spectacular take on the most legendary pirate story in literature, and this final season will bring us to the shores of Treasure Island as was always intended. Black Sails has been a tremendous success; from the loyal fan following and strong viewership numbers to awards recognition and the skill of our world-class production in Cape Town, we could not be more proud of this very special series.”

Starz original line-up typically airs on Saturday nights. But with the huge success of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, the premium cable channel has decided to air all of its original content on Sunday nights. Do you think this will hinder or help the various shows on Starz?
