Dane Cook has joined the cast of American Gods, playing the role of Robbie, best friend of the series protagonist, Shadow Moon (played by Ricky Whittle).
According to a report by The Wrap, Robbie is Shadow’s best friend prior to the latter’s imprisonment. He is married to the best friend of Shadow’s wife, Laura (played by Emily Browning) and the two are drawn closer together as Shadow’s release date nears.
Cook will be joining the previously announced, star-studded cast of American Gods including Ian McShane (Deadwood, Ray Donovan) as Mr. Wednesday, Gillian Anderson (Hannibal, The Fall) as Media, Sean Harris (The Borgias, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley (Deadly Waters) as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) as Mr. World, Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom) as Low Key Lyesmith, Cloris Leachman (Malcolm in The Middle, Raising Hope) as Zorya Vechernyaya, Peter Stormare (Fargo, Prison Break) as Czernobog, Chris Obi (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Counselor) as Anubis, Mousa Kraish (Superbad, Fast & Furious) as The Jinn, Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow) as Mr. Nancy, and Demore Barnes (12 Monkeys) as Mr. Ibis.
American Gods explores the idea that a pantheon of deities and mythological figures continues to exist because of people’s belief in them. With the weakening of faith in ancient creatures, a new generation of gods has emerged.
