Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them promo

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Newt ScamanderA new two-minute video has author J.K. Rowling talking more about the world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

This featurette was reported by IGN and has the author talking more in depth about the story as well as showing more scenes from the upcoming film.

“My heroes are always people who feel themselves to be set apart, stigmatized, or othered,” Rowling begins, “that’s at the heart of most of what I write and certainly at the heart of this movie.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was originally one of the textbooks Harry Potter studied while learning about magic at Hogwarts. Rowling says in the video that while she was writing the Harry Potter novels, she became intrigued by the character of Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne in the film). He is a magizoologist who has been traveling the world studying various creatures, some of which he carries around in his magical briefcase.

Redmayne says that “Newt feels more at home with creatures than he does with human beings.”

Some of these fascinating creatures are shown in the feature, as well as the secondary characters including Katherine Waterston as Porpentina Goldstein, and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, who inadvertently releases some of the magical creatures into 1920s New York.

As previously reported, the film will be directed by Harry Potter veteran David Yates and the screenplay was written by J.K. Rowling herself.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theaters on November 18, 2016.
