A new 90-second trailer has just been released for the upcoming HBO thriller Westworld, based on the 1973 movie.
The trailer reveals more about this sci-fi thriller set in a Western-style theme park that loses control of its robots, which wreak havoc on the park. We catch glimpses of many characters as they struggle to survive in this menacing world.
“Do you know where you are?” a deep voice asks as the trailer begins.
“I’m in a dream,” replies Dolores (played by Evan Rachel Wood.)
“That’s right, Dolores, you’re in a dream,” the voice continues, “Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?”
And then it cuts to various scenes in a Western setting: a train, a town, characters in cowboy hats, people riding horses.
“Welcome to Westworld,” says a woman, “no orientation, no guidebook, all our hosts are here for you.”
“In this world,” says Maeve Millay (played by Thandie Newton), “you can be whatever you want.”
After more Western scenes the trailer becomes more sinister, showing death and a room full of naked people, as well as a dark room where it becomes clear that the Western town is only a part of an elaborate fantasy that may hold grave dangers for its many visitors.
We catch glimpses of other characters including Anthony Hopkins’ Dr. Robert Ford, who is the creative director of Westworld.
According to HBO, the show is set at “the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past”, and that “it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.”
Westworld stars Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, and Ed Harris. The rest of the cast was previously announced. The show was written by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Person of Interest) and is produced by J.J. Abrams.
Westworld will air in October on HBO.
