Watch the Beauty and the Beast teaser

Beauty and the Beast Teaser TrailerThe magical first teaser for the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has just been released, filled with intricate imagery and a whiff of mystery.

The short clip opens with the view of a castle during a cold winter’s night. There are scenes of the castle’s sumptuous interiors including a ballroom filled with chandeliers, hallways with elaborate architecture, and luxurious rooms, all falling into shadow and dust due to the passage of time. Hauntingly beautiful, this is the Beast’s abandoned castle and the setting for the classic story.

No dialogue is spoken other than a few whispers between Ewan McGregor’s Lumiere and Ian McKellen’s Cogsworth and a hesitant “Hello?” from Emma Watson’s Belle, whose arrival will change the fates of all the castle’s inhabitants.

“Look! A girl,” Lumiere says in wonder.

“Yes, I can see it’s a girl, you fool,” Cogsworth replies gruffly.

“What if she is the one?” asks Lumiere, hinting at the importance of Belle’s presence in the abandoned castle.

We get a glimpse of Belle reaching out to touch the iconic rose that plays such a vital role in the story before the scene fades to black, except with a single rose petal falling. A link to the animated version of the film are the words “Be Our Guest” appearing at the end of the clip, while the notes of the film’s theme song are played.

This version of Beauty and the Beast is just one of the many planned live-action adaptations of Disney’s animated classics. The most recent are The Jungle Book and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Beauty and the Beast boasts an all-star cast including Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Josh Gad as Lefou, with the voices of Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, and Ewan McGregor as Lumiere.

Beauty and the Beast is due to be released on March 17, 2017.
