Lupita Nyong'o for Black PantherThe Oscar-winning actress is currently in negotiations to star alongside Chadwick Boseman in the upcoming Black Panther film.

According to an article by The Hollywood Reporter, Lupita Nyong’o might be joining Chadwick Boseman for Marvel’s Black Panther standalone film. Although her character has not yet been revealed, THR confirms that she will be playing the Panther’s love interest.

After her Academy Award-winning turn in 12 Years a Slave, Nyong’o has appeared in various hit films including Star Wars: The Force Awakens (as Maz Kanata) and the live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book (lending her voice to Raksha). She will soon be starring in Disney’s Queen of Katwe about the life of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. Another upcoming project is the science fiction thriller Intelligent Life, where she will be playing a mysterious woman who is not who she seems to be. She is also nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in Eclipsed, a play about women who survived the Second Liberian Civil War, which was written by The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira.

Black Panther made his first appearance in the recently released and hugely successful Captain America: Civil War. His real name is T’Challa and he is a warrior king of Wakanda, a fictional African nation in the Marvel universe that is rich in a rare and unbreakable alloy called vibranium (one of the materials used to construct Captain America’s shield.) The Panther made quite an impact on fans despite being one among many superheroes in the Captain America: Civil War, and fans are now eagerly looking forward to seeing his own adventures in a standalone film.

Marvel’s Black Panther will be written and directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed). Production on the film is scheduled to begin in early 2017.

Black Panther is set to be released on February 2, 2018.
