Using Jimmy Kimmel Live! as their vessel, 20th Century Fox, in association with Regency Enterprises and Ubisoft Entertainment, has unveiled the first official trailer for their upcoming video game adaptation, Assassin’s Creed. Directed by Justin Kursel (Macbeth) and starring Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse), Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), and Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman), Assassin’s Creed follows Callum Lynch (Fassbender) as he explores the memories of his ancestors through a device known as the Animus.
There is a lot to appreciate from the following trailer for fans of the ongoing, seemingly never-ending, video game franchise. Like the games, Fassbender’s Lynch lives out events of an ancestor who was an assassin. Much of the character’s free running and overall appearance resembles what fans of the games would expect. Unlike the games, though, this movie features a character created specifically for this film and will also be set during the Spanish Inquisition, an era not explored in the games. Additionally, fans will notice some major changes to the design of the Animus.
Assassin’s Creed definitely looks like it could be a fun ride and there are some very strong actors lending their talents to the film. That being said, typically video game movies end up receiving generally poor reviews. Let’s hope this isn’t the case with Assassin’s Creed. Check out the official trailer below (which oddly plays out to Kanye West’s “I Am A God”) and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
