According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel has officially ordered a spin-off series of The Punisher, after the character made his debut during the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil.
Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) will be reprising his role as Frank Castle, a lethal military veteran who implements his own brand of deadly justice on the criminal elements of Hell’s Kitchen.
No details have been revealed yet on whether certain characters from Daredevil will be making an appearance in the Punisher series. Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) will be serving as showrunner.
Marvel’s The Punisher is just the latest collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, the sixth television series following the two seasons of Daredevil, the first season of Jessica Jones and the upcoming series, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the ensemble miniseries, The Defenders.
TVLine previously reported that Netflix was considering a Punisher spinoff. A first teaser image of the series has also been released featuring Frank Castle’s skull insignia.
