Game of Thrones season 6: Bran’s Return

Bran Stark Three Eyed Raven Game of ThronesGame of Thrones star Isaac Hempstead-Wright discusses Bran’s larger and more active role this season.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the young actor goes into more detail about his role as Bran Stark in Game of Thrones. Having been absent during Season 5, Bran will return this season with a more dynamic contribution to the adventures of Westeros.

Bran has been training under the tutelage of the Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow) who has taught the young Stark how to use his powers.

Hempstead-Wright had this to say about Bran’s visions:

“Previously, he’s seen tiny glimpses of future or past but never has he been very much in control of the situation. Now we’re given looks into very important events in the past, present, and future of this world and Bran is beginning to piece them together like a detective, almost as if he’s watching the show. Equally, he’s now discovering how crucial he could be in the Great War. It’s quite Inception-y. His power is not just in telling us about the history, but also might have a serious impact on the future.”

The young actor also goes into more detail about the advancement of Bran’s powers and compares the experience to being like The Doctor:

“It started off with these disturbing dreams and finding he could control direwolves. Then he discovered he could warg into humans. Then he started to have these weird visions. Now he’s starting to make use of the visions and starting to discover he can interact with the past — he’s like Doctor Who. It’s Doctor Bran!”

Hempstead-Wright goes on to discuss how bizarre it was for him to sit out season 5 but how taking a break from the show gave him a chance to focus on his studies. He also admits that he still has not watched the entirety of Game of Thrones season 5.
