The Shannara Chronicles renewed for Season 2

The Shannara ChroniclesAfter a successful first season, MTV’s The Shannara Chronicles will be returning for another set of episodes.

The MTV adaptation of Terry Brooks’ fantasy book series has just been renewed for a second season, according to a report by IGN.

The first season, which aired earlier this year, comprised of ten episodes based on the second novel in the first Shannara trilogy, The Elfstones of Shannara. This focused on the quest of the Elven princess Amberle, the half-Elf, half human Wil Ohmsford, and the Rover Eretria, as they raced against time to save the sacred tree, Ellcrys, from dying and releasing an army of powerful demons. The show starred Poppy Drayton, Ivana Baquero, Austin Butler, Manu Bennett, and Aaron Jakubenko.

The success of the first season, which reportedly got 16.6 million streams online and was one of the top-rated shows on MTV, made renewal very likely. And now it’s official.

MTV executive vice president, Mina Lefevre, had this to say about the renewal:

“This dream team [MTV, Sonar and Farah Films] delivered a beautiful, ground breaking show with compelling stories and character journeys which brought in new viewers. I can’t wait to see what season 2 brings.”
