A thirty-second clip has just been released, days before the premiere of Game of Thrones season six.
The official YouTube channel has released a short but exciting promo for the upcoming season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
“The Wait Is Over,” the clip proclaims, and it’s mostly true considering the show will be returning to our screens in less than a week.
“Wherever you are, wherever you go,” Tyrion Lannister says in the promo, “someone wants to murder you.”
While the clip features many scenes recycled from the previous trailer, there are also a few scattered scenes that are extremely meaningful, especially to the hardcore fans’ sharp eyes. IGN’s Terri Schwartz discusses the promo in detail here.
There’s a quick shot of a guard with the Targaryen sigil on his armor that may hint at some flashbacks of a major event in the history of Westeros, one that book readers will be familiar with and non-book readers will surely enjoy.
Another scene is that of Dorne, particularly that of Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma), looking sad and serious, which teases the presence of Dorne and the Dornishmen in the upcoming season.
There is also a quick shot of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) being whipped by a Dothraki as she walks as a captive of her late husband’s people after stumbling upon a khalasar.
There is a foggy scene of ships on a stormy sea, but the sails and sigils are obscured by darkness, possibly also an attempt by the producers to prevent spoilers from spreading among avidly speculating fans.
There are also a couple of shots of Bran Stark standing in a snowy background. Presumably, he will have some more interesting storylines this season as he sat the last season out.
All these scenes effectively added to the anticipation for what the new episodes will explore.
Game of Thrones season six premieres on April 24 on HBO.
