New ‘Suicide Squad’ Trailer Released During the MTV Movie Awards

Using the 2016 MTV Movie Awards as their vessel, Warner Bros. has premiered a brand new trailer for their upcoming DC film, Suicide Squad. After the mostly negative critical response to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was rumored that Suicide Squad would undergo re-shoots to make it more fun. Although stars of the film, including Jai Courtney who plays Captain Boomerang, have denied these rumors to be true. That being said, if the movie follows suit with the tone this latest trailer suggests, than we should hopefully be in for a pretty fun ride. Check it out:

Keeping in tradition with the last trailer, which featured “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, this new trailer utilizes a cover of Lesley Gore‘s “You Don’t Own Me” by Grace and “Ballroom Blitz” by the band Sweet. Plenty of new footage debuts of each member of the Suicide Squad, Jared Leto’s Joker, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and even Ben Affleck’s Batman. If Dawn of Justice didn’t shove it down your throat enough already, the implications of having Superman left unchecked are further explored as the opening dialogue of this trailer suggests the threat of Superman is one of the selling points for creating and needing the Suicide Squad.

This trailer still rightfully leaves a lot of questions unanswered. How big is Batman’s role in the film? Why isn’t Cara Delevigne’s Enchantress tagging along with the rest of the squad? Is The Joker the film’s main antagonist or merely an interference? Hopefully, the audience is kept in the dark on certain plot points until the movie’s release and upcoming trailers don’t spoil any surprises.

Suicide Squad is definitely looking a lot better than its predecessor, Dawn of Justice. It looks fun, action packed, and visually stimulating. Jared Leto’s Joker is appropriately creepy and the main cast, including Will Smith, Jai Courtney, and Margot Robbie, seem to be injecting some humor into their respective roles.

Written and directed by David Ayer (Fury, Training Day), Suicide Squad releases in theaters this August 5. Will you be checking Suicide Squad out in theaters or has Dawn of Justice made you rethink giving DC’s cinematic universe a chance? Feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
