American Gods cast announced

Yetide Badaki American GodsSean Harris American GodsSean Harris, Yetide Badaki, and Bruce Langley have been cast for the upcoming television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.

According to a report on Deadline, these three actors have joined the cast of Bryan Fuller’s television take on American Gods.

Sean Harris (The Borgias, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) will be playing Mad Sweeney, described as a “down on his luck leprechaun, who is having a hard time understanding how he lost his charm and way.”

Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) will be playing Bilquis, “an ancient goddess of love who craves the worship she inspired in eras long gone, and who is eager to find that same relevance in today’s world.”

Bruce Langley American GodsBruce Langley, in his first television role, will be playing Technical Boy, a “New God who is a purveyor of all things technology” and who is “desperate to prove himself, and hungry for respect and power. He struggles to keep his impulsivity in check, making him dangerously unpredictable.”

As previously reported, American Gods:

“explores the idea that various deities and mythological creatures’ existence is fueled by people’s belief in them. With the waning of belief in ancient beings, a new generation of gods has emerged as reflections of American popular culture, including media, celebrity, technology, and drugs.

The novel’s protagonist is a recently released convict named Shadow who meets a mysterious figure called Mr. Wednesday who offers him a job as his bodyguard. This encounter eventually leads to a long and fascinating journey across America, where the importance of belief is further reflected on.”

As Deadline reported, American Gods has been translated into more than 30 languages and is the recipient of many awards including the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel.

Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) and Michael Green will be the writers and showrunners. David Slade (Hannibal) will be directing the pilot and additional episodes.
