New Trailer Released for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

X-Men Apocalypse Poster20th Century Fox has released a brand new trailer for the next installment in their X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse. Directed by Bryan Singer with a screenplay written by returning scribe Simon Kinberg, the film will pit the X-Men against a new threat known as Apocalypse, the world’s first mutant, played by Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, and James McAvoy return with newcomers Oliva Munn as Psylocke, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Ben Hardy as Angel, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner as Jean Grey.

Opening with some dialogue ripped straight from Singer’s 2nd X-Men film, the new trailer gives audiences a glimpse of the destruction and devastation that will be result from the battle with Apocalypse and his four horsemen. His four horsemen seemingly being Storm, Psylocke, Angel, and Magneto. After being conflicted in the last two films as to what side she stands on, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique now seems to be a full-fledged member of Charles Xavier’s X-Men and serves as a mentor to the young Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler.

The cover of Coldplay‘s “Don’t Panic”, performed by Clarity, originally used in the Super Bowl 50 TV spot, makes a return in the trailer, setting a somber tone for the film to come. If you’re not yet sold on this film, either due to your disgust with the previous X-Men films or with the fact that Apocalypse resembles Ivan Ooze from the original Power Rangers movie, this trailer won’t do much to sway you. Although if you are a fan of Singer’s X-Men films, there is a lot the trailer offers to hopefully get you excited for this next installment.

X-Men: Apocalypse releases in theaters May 27, 2016.
