Mad Max: Fury Road wins record-breaking six Oscars

Mad Max OscarsMad Max: Fury Road, the Australian post-apocalyptic road movie, took home the most Academy Awards of any of this year’s nominees.

George Miller’s epic sequel to the Mad Max series made history at the 88th Academy Awards by winning six of the ten categories it was nominated for, the most wins of any of this year’s Oscar nominees.

With ten nominations, Mad Max was the second most-nominated film next to this year’s Best Picture winner nominee The Revenant. While the film was also up for Best Picture this year and lost to Spotlight, it dominated the technical categories and won:

– Best Film Editing
– Best Production Design
– Best Costume Design
– Best Makeup and Hairstyling
– Best Sound Mixing
– Best Sound Editing

Mad Max: Fury Road also broke the record for most wins for an Australian film, a record previously held by The Piano with three Oscars.
