Michael Raymond James returns to Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time Neal Michael Raymond JamesIt’s happening. According to a report by TVLine, Michael Raymond James will be reprising his role as Rumplestiltskin’s son, Baelfire or Neal, for the special 100th episode of Once Upon a Time.

This comes as no big surprise considering all the familiar characters returning from the dead for the upcoming mid-season arc, which is set in the Underworld. At the end of the mid-season finale, Emma Swan and her family set off on a mission to save the newly dead Killian Jones a.k.a. Captain Hook by journeying into the realm of the departed. When they reach the Underworld, they will undoubtedly encounter many significant figures from their past who have died in previous seasons.

Among these familiar faces are various family members whose presence will surely renew some old tensions. As the promotional photos reveal, Regina will be reuniting with her mother, Cora (and possibly her father too, the man whose heart she crushed to enact the Dark Curse, so things might be awkward.) Peter Pan, Rumplestiltskin’s father, will also be making an appearance, so seeing three generations of that family will be something special. And it’s worth adding that Neal is also Henry’s father.

The details surrounding Raymond-James’ appearance this season have been kept under wraps, and even the shooting of his scenes have been carefully guarded. It has not been confirmed if he will be one of the souls Emma and the others meet in the Underworld or if he will be appearing in a flashback scene.

But he is certainly a character people are expecting to see. And Emma Swan certainly still has some things she could discuss with him. Once Upon a Time co-creator Eddy Kitsis told TVLine:

“I think that it would be very disappointing for her to go down there and not have somebody talk about Neal.”

Other than his appearance on Once Upon a Time, Raymond-James will also be starring in NBC’s Game of Silence.

Once Upon a Time returns for its 100th episode on March 6 on ABC.
