Watch the new Pete’s Dragon teaser

Pete's Dragon posterA short teaser for Disney’s re-imagining of Pete’s Dragon has been released.

The updated version of the classic story has been given its own teaser trailer featuring some impressive CGI and an intriguing glimpse into the new film, which is directed by David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints). The short clip mostly features the human characters and a lot of running around. We don’t get a glimpse of the titular dragon until the very end.

A report by Empire Online reveals the main threads of the story. Pete’s Dragon features the wood carver Mr. Meacham (played by Robert Redford), who eagerly tells tales about a fierce dragon supposedly inhabiting the forests of the Pacific Northwest. While his daughter (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) listens to his stories, she does not give them credence until she crosses paths with a young 10-year old boy named Pete (played by Oakes Fegley), who claims to be living alone in the forest with a giant, green dragon named Elliot. Grace then suspects that there may be more to her father’s stories than meets the eye.

The rest of the cast includes Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence, and Karl Urban.

Pete’s Dragon opens in the UK and the US on August 12.
