Gotham will return darker than ever

BD Wong GothamNew details about the mid-season premiere of Gotham reveal Arkham’s more sinister nature.

According to a report by TVLine, the upcoming episode of Gotham will show the aftermath of Theo Galavan’s (James Frain) murder from the mid-season finale. Arkham Asylum will be open for business again and under the control of the new head of security, Hugo Strange, played by B.D. Wong.

The asylum will now feature new “intense procedures” for rehabilitation, which Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) will experience first hand. Even a hardened criminal like Penguin will apparently be shaken by what he sees in Arkham, an indication of just how grisly the new procedures are.

Arkham has always been a shady place in Gotham but under its new management, it’s about to become even more hellish. Especially with the suspiciously gruesome experiments Hugo Strange is conducting at the underground Indian Hill facility. We can only imagine what horrors are about to emerge from these experiments, nightmares that might even frighten the worst villains on the show.

It looks like Jim Gordon and his allies will have their work cut out for them when the season picks up next week.

The second season of Gotham, called Rise of the Villains, returns on February 29 on Fox.
