Using The CW special DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League as their vessel, Warner Bros. debuted a brand new trailer for their upcoming David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad movie. While the last trailer released during 2015’s San Diego Comic-Con International was more somber and dark in tone, this latest trailer focuses a lot more on the fun and action of Suicide Squad, while providing more information about the film’s characters all to the tune of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Check it out:
While there’s definitely a lot to take away from this trailer, the details behind the Suicide Squad’s first real suicide mission are still left unclear. We do, however, get to see more of each character’s respective abilities. Both Katana (Karen Fukuhara) and Enchantress (Cara Delevinge) have abilities both based in magic, as Katana wields her iconic Soultaker Sword and Enchantress is possessed by a witch. El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) gets to show off his ability to shoot flames from his hands. Deadshot (Will Smith) is noted for his marksman skills. Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is described as a crocodile who eats people. Not much is said about Slipknot (Adam Beach), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) isn’t seen throwing any boomerangs, but it seems he may serve as some comic relief.
Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) definitely has her crazy turned up to eleven. We are given some brief glimpses into her relationship with The Joker (Jared Leto), and it’s even implied The Joker gives Harley the same acid bath that bleached his own skin white. Despite her seemingly tragic backstory her character seems to be the funniest of the bunch and should bring some appropriate comedic relief to the film, though some of her comedic dialogue does fall flat.
The film definitely looks action packed and fun throughout, but it will still attempt to complete the difficult task of introducing and establishing numerous characters, many of whom have not been seen in any live action media beforehand, while hopefully telling a compelling story.
Written and directed by David Ayer (Fury, Training Day), Suicide Squad stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, and Jared Leto as The Joker. Suicide Squad releases in theaters August 5, 2016. Check out a few screenshots from the latest trailer below.
