Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Watch the trailer!

The first teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been unveiled, taking us back to the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Various promotional materials have been released over the course of this year, whetting our appetite for our return to the world of magic.

We finally get a short glimpse into J.K. Rowling’s newest adventure with the trailer for the upcoming film.

“Lumos maxima,” a voice whispers as a spark of bluish light grows and spreads across the screen.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Katherine WaterstonThe lone figure of a woman with a suitcase stands before an assembly of people. From previously released information, we recognize her as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein (played by Katherine Waterston). And we can assume that she is standing before the Magical Congress of the United States (the American version of the Ministry of Magic.)

“Yesterday a wizard entered New York with a case,” she reports nervously, “a case full of magical creatures. And unfortunately some have escaped.”

Various scenes of 1920s New York are shown, as well as an apartment building that has seemingly been destroyed by one of these dangerous magical creatures.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Eddie RedmayneThe scene cuts to Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne.) He opens his suitcase and after hearing some roars come from within, he snaps it shut.

“It was open?” Tina Goldstein asks him.

“Just a smidge,” Scamander replies.

“Mr. Scamander!” someone cries as Newt launches a spell at someone…or something.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first in a planned trilogy of films. It is set in New York, 1926, and will follow the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander who arrives in the city with his case of magical creatures, which accidentally get unleashed and cause all kinds of chaos. The film will also tackle more mature themes such as the conflicts between magical and non-magical communities in America.

Joining Redmayne and Waterston are Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Colin Farrell as Graves, Samatha Morton as Mary Lou, and Ezra Miller as Credence.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on November 2016.
