‘Reign’ To Go On Hiatus After January 22nd. Should We Worry?

reign season 3

reign season 3 maryOn November 23rd, the CW revealed a bit of their upcoming 2016 mid-season return/premiere dates.

The biggest scheduling changes for the network are their Thursday and Friday time slots.

Starting Thursday January 21st, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and The 100 season three premiere will begin, airing at 8/7pmc and 9/8pmc respectively.

“But don’t The Vampire Diaries and its sister show, The Originals, currently (and have been in TVD‘s case) air Thursday nights?” you’re probably asking. Yes, but that will soon change, too.

The two supernatural dramas will still air side-by-side at the same time, but on a new day: Friday.

Gone is The Vampire Diaries‘ 6 and 1/2 season streak of continuously airing on Thursdays at 8/7c.

Because of the Friday night change, after having a brief couple episode run (this is speculation), the period drama, Reign, will conclude for the time being on January 22nd. After its winter finale, The Vampire Diaries will take its place.

The CW is set to air the remaining season three episodes of Reign on a different date and time that has yet to be determined.

The drastic scheduling changes have caused quite a stir among fans. The word ‘cancellation’ has definitely been feared with Reign viewers, that much I know. The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are sure to be in the clear of being cancelled; they are bound to succeed regardless of their time slot. As for Reign, this writer’s personal opinion on the future for the show is that it becomes a summer show.

Perhaps it’ll air alongside the final season of Beauty and the Beast?

What does everyone think about the CW’s mid-season 2016 schedule changes?

Reign‘s mid-season finale, 3.07: “The Hound and the Hare”, airs tonight at 8/7c.
